Tom Harguess, minister for the Hammon Church of Christ, was born in Arizona and graduated from high school in Arizona. He attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico from 1963 to 1970. His dad was a Church of Christ preacher for all of Tom’s growing up years. He also has two brothers who have been Church of Christ preachers. Tom has preached in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma. He has been preaching for the Leedey Church of Christ for the past two years, but before this he served as the minister for the Second & Adams Church of Christ in Elk City for 16 years.
Tom and his wife Carol have been married for 45 years. Carol is the Finance Director for the Elk City Housing Authority, a job she has held for 14 years. The couple has two grown children: Pam and her husband Mark of Canyon, Texas, and Brad of Elk City. The Harguess family has six precious grandchildren that range in age from 15 down to 9 years of age.
Tom loves all sports and especially fishing. He is an avid fisherman. He loves to cook and has entered the Chili Cook-Off in Elk City two years running. Tom won first place for the best chili one year and had planned to enter this year, but had to decline because of the move and more pressing plans. Tom has worked in youth camps for over 25 years. In recent years, he taught at the Blue Haven Youth Camp up by Las Vegas, New Mexico. He also served on the board of directors for the camp for five years. If you cut him, he will bleed Camp Blue Haven!
